UMA’s March appointed to police chiefs association

Noel March
AUGUSTA — Noel C. March has been appointed to the International Association of Chiefs of Police Board of Directors. March is director of the Maine Community Policing Institute and a lecturer of justice studies at the University of Maine at Augusta. As part of his duties as director of Maine Community Policing Institute, March is a chief of police.
IACP is “committed to advancing safer communities through thoughtful, progressive police leadership.” The organization has more than 30,000 members in more than 160 countries. As a member of the Board of Directors, March will play a significant role in the organizations leadership, according to a news releasing from UMA.
March was appointed as the 39th U.S. marshal for the District of Maine by President Barack Obama in December 2010, and served in that capacity for eight years. He was a founding director of UMA’s Regional Community Policing Institute when it was established in 1998, an institute that he is reinstating after a period of inactivity as the Maine Community Policing Institute, and has held the ranks of patrol officer, drug unit supervisor, chief deputy sheriff and chief of police.
March has traveled internationally as a presenter and consultant, and his work has been featured in Police Chief magazine, FBI National Academy Associates magazine, University Business magazine, Campus Law Enforcement Journal magazine and Law Enforcement Trainer magazine.
“Noel March is an excellent choice for appointment to the International Association of Chiefs of Police,” said Rebecca Wyke, UMA president. “His stellar career within the State of Maine and nationally, and his extensive law enforcement knowledge, will be of value to the organization.”
“I am honored to receive this appointment to the Board of Directors and look forward to taking part in the important work of the IACP,” said March.
