UMaine Extension beekeeping courses begin Jan. 7 in Falmouth

FALMOUTH — University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer several beginner and intermediate beekeeping courses at the UMaine Regional Learning Center, 75 Clearwater Drive in January, February and March.
The five-session beginner beekeeping class meets from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 7 to Feb. 4, with a second session scheduled Feb. 18 to March 17. There is a fee for the course which includes a textbook. Instructors for both sessions are Master Beekeepers Jacky Hildreth and Peggy McLaughlin.
Intermediate classes begin Feb. 5 to 12 with a focus on honey bee diseases and pests; the fee includes a textbook. From March 4 to 11, classes on queens and nucs for the backyard beekeeper will be offered. Both classes meet 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will be taught by Master Beekeeper Erin MacGregor Forbes.
