Central Maine projects awarded bicentennial grants
AUGUSTA — Projects in Augusta, Hallowell, Gardiner, Bath and Sabattuss are among 30 awarded a total of $145,255 Maine200 Bicentnnial Project grants.
The Maine Bicentennial Committee approved 21 Large Project applications, totalling $140,775, and nine Small Project applications, totaling $4,500. The grants are administered through the Maine Arts Commission and go to nonprofits, individuals and businesses that partner with a nonprofit.
Priority was given to projects directly tied to the state bicentennial commemoration, as well as those supported through local matching funds or in-kind contributions ,as well as ones that engage the community, create lasting resources, and are free, subdidzies or have a reasonable cost. Projects receiving grant benefit the public, such as parades, historic preservation efforts, education programs and more. The other two rounds are Feb. 1 and June 1.
The Maine Legislature approved $375,000 for the grants, and one large award of $10,000 will go to each of the state’s 16 counties.
Central Maine Large Project grant recipients are city of Hallowell; Gardiner Library Association; and University of Maine at Augusta.
Small Project Awards of $500 went to Friends of Lithgow Library, Augusta; Oak Hill Middle Schoo, Sabattus; Patten Free Library, Bath.
