MEXICO — Homeowners in Dixfield, Mexico, Peru and Rumford 60 or older and/or disabled were able to take advantage of the annual River Valley Rotary Club free home winterization project Nov. 8.
River Valley Rotarians went into homes to help prepare them for winter. Projects included caulking, placing plastic on windows, installing door sweeps and weather stripping and applying plastic around some foundations.
Roger Whitehouse, chairman of the Winterization Project, fielded the requests and was surprised with only three applicants; last year, there were 15 requests. Application deadline was Nov. 1.
The needy program has been in place for well over a decade for the elderly, 60 or older, living in the towns of Rumford, Mexico, Peru and Dixfield. Those interested in receiving some assistance in the winterizing of their home filled out and returned an application to a Whitehouse at Riverside Realty, 152 River Road.
No person associated with the Rotary Weatherization Project asks for or accept any money for conducting this service. The River Valley Rotarians offers services, along with the volunteers from local neighbors and organizations, to provide some weatherization and to give out some literature where further assistance may be found to help you get through the upcoming heating season. Although they may not be able to take care of all weatherization needs, the intent is to assist in areas where and when skills and time allow.
