RCAM annual Empty Bowls Supper is Nov. 16

WAYNE — Rural Community Action Ministry will hold its 5th annual Empty Bowls Supper from 4:30 t0 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Ladd Recreation Center. The supper’s aim is to increase community awareness about hunger and food insecurity issues facing towns in its service area.
“Food insecurity is just one of the serious issues the 14 towns we serve are facing,” said RCAM Executive Director Janice Daku. “Recent data shows an increasing level of residents juggling limited resources to keep their families fed, and the balls are dropping.
“RCAM is holding its Empty Bowls Supper this year to kick off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which starts on November 16,” Daku said. “We hope this event will help us raise additional funds to support local hunger prevention activities while providing an opportunity for community outreach and education.”
Local musician Stan Davis will provide entertainment at the Empty Bowls Supper. A wide variety of soup and chowder will be served, together with salad, bread, drinks and desserts. Admission buys a pottery bowl ready to be filled with any of the soup or chowder of the attendee’s choice. Tickets are $10, $5 for children under 12, and $25 for families up to five with a maximum of three pottery bowls per family. There will also be a silent auction of pottery items at this RCAM fundraiser.
Rural Community Action Ministry has been providing hunger and homelessness prevention services to rural families since 1970 serving the communities of Buckfield, Canton, Greene, Hartford, Leeds, Litchfield, Livermore, Monmouth, Sabattus, Sumner, Turner, Wales, Wayne and limited service to Livermore Falls.
