Annual homeless veterans stand down is Oct. 19 at Togus

AUGUSTA — The annual homeless veterans stand down will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the VA Maine Healthcare Systems Togus campus, 1 VA Center, Building 201.
The VA and its community partners will transport an estimated 65 to 90 homeless veterans for a full day of free services and resources needed to help end their homelessness. Some 200 volunteers and VA employees will offer such services as housing, employment, health care, optometry, flu shots, free haircuts, veterans benefits, legal assistance, tax advocacy, MaineCare and more.
The purpose is to ensure Maine’s homeless Veterans are connected to the right resources needed to help end their homelessness and offer long-term stability.
The event is open to all homeless veterans, and organizers are also invited community landlords to attend in the morning to talk with an outreach worker, who can educate them on the different housing subsidies and support available to housed veterans.
