Shields will speak at Rotary Lunch Club meetings Oct. 3

AUBURN — Past Rotary President Bethel Shields will be the guest speaker of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Lunch Club, sharing the history of the Winston Churchill Memorial during her presentation Thursday, Oct. 3.
Meetings are held from noon to 1 p.m. at The Village Inn, 165 High St.
Born in Maine and raised in Milwaukee, Wisc., Shields received her registered nursing degree from Milwaukee County Hospital and her bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Maine.
Shields and her husband Thomas had five children and four grandchildren; they have been married for 62 years. Shields was an Auburn City Councilor for six years and the mayor’s representative to the Auburn School Board for four years. She loves to read, quilt, watch sports, and work on the New York Times crossword puzzles. She also was instrumental in the development of the Balloon Festival and L/A Senior College. Her current project is making 20 quilts for the Veteran’s Homeless Shelter in Lewiston.
