Open house among Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine October activities

NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine will host its annual open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The event is free and open to the public, and everyone is welcome tovisit and ask questions. The open house can connect those with cancer and their caregivers and family members to resources that can help – comfort items like pillows, wigs, hats, and port protectors and free coupons for complimentary therapies and swimming. There will also be information on the on the center’s weekly activities and programs like crafting, yoga, gentle exercise and chair yoga.
Information on volunteering will also be available, and refreshments will be served. The center provides services and resources to patients and families in Oxford, Androscoggin and Cumberland counties.
Other October activities inclue:
Pumpkin Carving from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 17. Pumpkins will be carved and then displayed during the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead annual Jack O’Lantern Spectacular from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19. Pumpkins and carving templates will be provided by McLaughlin Gardens. After the Spectacular, pumpkins may be picked up to display at home.
There will be a paint night from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Bridgton Hospital, 10 Hospital Drive, Bridgton. Anyone affected by cancer, as well as caregivers, can have fun painting a large paint by number canvas then take their masterpiece home. Class size is limited. The center also offers support groups, rally groups for men, exercise and other activities.
Drop-in hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Volunteers are available to provide comfort items such as port protectors, wigs, hats, pillows or find resources. There are also pamphlets and a lending library.
The center is also a place to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, chat with a volunteer or take time for yourself by participating in scheduled programs. Activities such as coloring, knitting and games are available at all times.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine is in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building, 199 Main St.
