AUGUSTA — A deadline is looming for women to be nominated as the official 2020 “Mother of the Year” for the state of Maine.
American Mothers Inc. is seeking nominations of women who exemplify the importance of a mother’s work. For nearly 85 years the nonprofit organization has held the responsibility of naming the National Mother of the Year. Nominations for Maine Mother of the Year can be made at AmericanMothers.org until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Honorees from all 50 states will be announced in January and will travel to Washington, D.C. in April, where the 2020 National Mother of the Year will be announced.
Lina Michaud, of Augusta, was recognized as Maine’s 2019 Mother of the Year for her work as a community and leader and advocate for kinship families.
The Mother of the Year award was established in 1935 by the American Mothers Committee of the Golden Rule Foundation. The recognition of an “admirable” mother was made to provide an inspiration to the nation who would represent a mother’s unconditional love, inner strength, and courage. Every year since, American Mothers, Inc. has named an inspirational mother from nominees across the 50 states, District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for this important honor.
