Winthrop, Readfield seniors may sign up for rides to appointments, errands

WINTHROP — Seniors 60 and over in Winthrop and Readfield who have challenges arranges rides to medical appointments or for essential errands, like grocery shopping, may be eligible for assistance.
Seniors interested in signing up for the service should contact Lynn Kidd at 207-530-0137 or LKidd@ccmaine.org. Kidd will assess transportation needs to make sure they can be handled by a volunteer driver. There are no income guidelines or other limitations. More information on how the program works will be supplied to those who sign up.
The program is run by Winthrop United Methodist Church, St. Francis Xavier Church, and several other community organizations, partnering with SEARCH (a Catholic Charities service), which is equipped to screen volunteers as well as provide training.
Those interested in driving should also contact Kidd, who is employed by SEARCH. Drivers use their own vehicles, which are checked for vehicle registration, inspection and insurance.
Rides are generally limited to the local Winthrop/Readfield/Augusta area. To learn more about the program, contact Kidd.
