Tumbledown trail maintenance, guided hike scheduled

WELD — Two Tumbledown Mountain events are scheduled for the comming weeks.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, Tumbledown Public Land is hosting a morning of trail maintenance. It will include routine upkeep on the Brook Trail, including re-digging water bars, lopping back branches and raking leaves.
Those who’d like to particpate may meet at the Brook Trailhead on Byron Road. The cleanup is 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and those participating should bring at least two liters of water per person, snacks, bug spray, long pants, closed-toe shoes and work gloves. Tools, eye protection and hard hats will be provided.
On Sunday, Sept. 22, there will be a guided hike up Tumbedown. It will on on Brook Trail to Crater Lake, then descend along the Parker Ridge Trail, to Little Jackson Connector back to the trailhead. The hike will include discussion of geology, trees and plants, history, wildlife and issues facing the mountain.
Those who would like to hike should meet at the Brook Trailhead on Byron Road. The hike will take place from 9 a.m. to about 2 p.m.
The route is a 4.7 mile round-trip with 1,800 feet of elevation gain. Those hiking should bring at least two liters of water per person, snacks, lunch, bug spray, sunscreen, comfortable hiking clothes, good hiking shoes and trekking poles (if needed).
