GREENE — Starting in September, Morse Library will present its Story Time sessions for young children on a new day and time. The next Story Time series will run at 10 a.m. for six consecutive Fridays, Sept. 13 through Oct. 18.
Each week, retired children’s librarians Sandra Fowler and Pam Osborn will present new and classic picture books, along with occasional songs and hands-on activities. Free and open to all, Story Time at Morse Library is best-suited for kids ages 2 to 6 and their adult caregivers, but older and younger siblings are also welcome to attend.
Reading to preschoolers of all ages is vitally important to the development of language skills that create a foundation for success in school and later in life. It teaches young children about the world and fosters the development of key interpersonal skills, including empathy.
Bringing children to library story times also offers an opportunity to socialize, practice focusing attentively on a central activity while part of a group (another key skill for school readiness), and explore the library’s collection of books and toys for preschoolers of all ages.
