Data show September is the most dangerous driving month

With 3068 total driving fatalities in 2017, September is the most dangerous month to drive with 1.15 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, according QuoteWizard, which compiles data for the insurance industry.
Additionally, Maine drivers are rated as the overall worst drivers in the nation, according to QuoteWizard’s 2018 study. According to Maine.gov, there was an increase of more than 1,500 car crashes from 2016 to 2017. In 2017, there were 34,958 total car accidents in the state, of which 157 were fatal.
In preparation for the Labor Day weekend, QuoteWizard is seeking to bring awareness to to Mainers about being safe on the roads.
Key Findings:
* From 2011-2015, Labor Day weekend averaged 375 road fatalities nationwide, with a total of 1878 fatalities over that time period; * 38.5 percent of the fatalities were because of alcohol impairment; * In August, there were 32,678 total fatalities in the U.S., the most of any month from 2007 to 2017; * The safest month to drive in was March, with 2,686 driving fatalities in 2017, an average of .97 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles driven in the last 10 years
