Free Timber Harvest for Birds tour is Aug. 24 in Livermore

LIVERMORE — A free workshop, Timber Harvest Tour & Forestry for Maine Birds, will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at Washburn Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Road.
The workshop is presented by American Forest Management, a land management and forestry consulting firm, Maine Audubon and the Maine Forest Service. The workshop, which is open to the public, will discuss forest bird habitat and how logging can help create specific habitat elements.
The woods tour will show how the harvest is incorporating elements of the Forestry for Maine Birds Program, and those attending will learn simple handy ways to assess their own bird species on the land.
Those who’d like to take part in the tour should meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot behind the white church at Norlands. For more information, call forester Bill Haslam at 207-491-1602.
