Area students graduate from Bates

LEWISTON — Bates College graduated 469 students from 36 states and 36 countries on May 26. Cumulatively, the Class of 2019 performed 80,000 hours of community service, exemplifying Bates’ commitment to community learning and civic action.
Area students graduating included:
Kyle Flaherty, of Litchfield, graduated after majoring in history. Flaherty is a 2015 graduate of Oak Hill High School.
Flaherty was also inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization that honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.
Olivia Gilbert, of Turner, graduated after majoring in politics and minoring in rhetoric. Gilbert is a 2015 graduate of Leavitt Area High School.
Allison Cormier, of Lewiston, graduated after majoring in classical and medieval studies and minoring in geology. Cormier is a 2015 graduate of Deer Isle-Stonington High School. Cormier graduates as a member of Eta Sigma Phi, an honor society for classics students.
Emily Gibson, of Mechanic Falls, graduated after majoring in biology. Gibson is a 2015 graduate of Poland Regional High School.
