WINTHROP — Seniors who need help getting transportation to a medical appointment or for essential errands my soon have an option.
A loocal group that includes members of Winthrop United Methodist Church, St. Francis Xavier Church and several other community organizations has teamed up to develop transportation solutions for residents 60 and over. The group has partnered with SEARCH (a Catholic Charities service) which is equipped to screen volunteers with an interview, reference and background checks as well as provide appropriate training as drivers. Drivers use their own vehicles which are checked for vehicle registration, inspection and insurance.
Those interested in signing up for rides from the service may contact Lynn Kidd at SEARCH — 207-530-0137 or LKi dd@ccmai ne.org. She will meet with applicants and assess transportation needs, to make sure those needs cann be handled by a volunteer driver. This will help her tell the volunteer driver where the rider lives, and extra assistance that may be needed. Riderw will be be required to officially sign up for the SEARCH program, but there are no income guidelines or other limitations.

Rides are generally limited to the Winthrop/Readfield/Augusta area.
