MECHANIC FALLS — The Mechanic Falls Historical Society recently publicized a framed photograph of the sixth grade class at Elm Street School from 1949. Class members were not identified in the photograph, so the public was asked for assistance in placing names to the faces.
Nancy Peterson, librarian at the Mechanic Falls Public Library, sought to have the photograph scanned so an image could be viewed at the library for identification purposes. When she removed the back of the frame of the photograph, she discovered a lined sheet of paper with the names of the students and their location in the photograph.
Shortly after that discovery, Eugene Keene, a member of the class, called and notified the library that there was a sheet of paper with the names inserted in the back of the frame of the photograph.
The Historical Society will host a reunion of that sixth-grade class from 1949 Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers, second floor, in the Municipal Building.The names of the sixth-grade class at Elm Street School from 1949, from back to front, are:
