Raft Race Aug. 17 on Canton beach will begin at 1 p.m.

CANTON — The Lake Anasagunticook Association will host a Raft Race Saturday, Aug. 17, on the beach located on Main Street between Lake Shore Drive and Bonney Road.
The race will begin at 1 p.m., although teams should have their rafts on the beach by 12:30 p.m.
Cash prizes will be awarded to winners in the following categories — Fastest, Most Creative, Funniest, Most Likely to Sink, Most Passengers and Best in Show. The judges are Canton Selectman Carole Robbins and Hartford Selectman Lee Holman.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration forms are available at lakeanasagunticook.org/events/ or at the “Friends of Lake Anasagunticook” Facebook page. Registration forms will also be available at the event.
The rules of the race:
* People of all ages are welcome to participate, although one person on each raft must be at least 18 years old.
* Rafts must be homemade. Manufactured crafts such as boats, kayaks, SUP boards, etc. and motors are not allowed.
* Raft must be human powered; poles, oars, paddles, sails, etc. are allowed.
* Everyone on the raft must bring and wear a life vest and will be required to sign a waiver form upon arrival.
* Teams must remove all rafts and raft parts from the lake upon completion of the race.
The association is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that works in partnership with the lakefront property owners, residents of Canton and Hartford, and other interested parties to preserve the water quality of the lake, sustain its aesthetic appeal and provide recreational opportunities.
