LEWISTON — The first branch of the national Laundromat Library League is open in Maine at the Wash Tub on 100 Horton St.
LLL has had sites in 20 states and eventually wants to have a Laundromat Library in every state, with used books for children to browse while their family washes clothes. The newest branch in Lewiston is cosponsored by Walking Books Library of western Maine and is upgraded to include new books, more diverse books, including some in Spanish, as well as books for adults and teens.
David and Michelle Beaudette, who have owned the laundromat for about four years, will steward the location. They already had a small supply of their own books out for customers to browse and this was a welcome additionm they said.
