LOVELL — More than 100 members and guests celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Kezar Lake Watershed Association on July 13, at the annual meeting, which was held at the Lovell VFW hall.
All former governors of the association were recognized and given KLWA 50th anniversary gifts. There were reports on key KLWA projects including water quality, loons, climate change and fishing.
Two new trustees were welcomed: Laura Robinson and Shelley Pilsbury.
Looking forward, two presentations centered on Kezar Lake’s lower bay, which is only 10 feet deep on average. “Be Wake Wise” presented by Don Griggs identified boating activities that can harm the shore land and scour the lake bottom releasing phosphorus which can lead to algae blooms. Flyers describing preventative boating practices were distributed at the meeting and to towns in the watershed.
The KLWA also formally kicked off a 50th anniversary photo contest, which runs through Aug. 15, 2019 For information and rules, visit KLWA.us/photocontest.
