WINTHROP — The Kennebec Land Trust and the Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed will host a paddle on Little Cobbossee, including a visit to the Oatway Preserve, on Monday, Aug. 12.
Particpants will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Friends of Cobbossee Watershed office on U.S. Route 202 (across from the Lakeside Motel). Participants must bring a kayak or canoe and personal floatation device. Those with kayaks or canoes may let the hosts know, and they willl direct them to rentals.
There is also an optional opportunity to participate in an aquatic plant identification workshop beore the padded, at 4 p.m. Those participating will learn about invasive aquatic plants and what they can do to help stop their spread.
Little Cobbossee is about 75 acres with a maximum depth of 33 feet. The pond was smaller in the mid-1700s, before Cobbossee Stream was dammed. The Oatway Preserve features 34 acres of wetlands, 4,000 feet of shoreline with significant wading bird and waterfowl habitat, and 56 acres of mixed woods.
