Shaker Village craft workshops, nature walk are July 20

NEW GLOUCESTER — Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village will offer a series of traditional craft workshops and an educational nature walk Saturday, July 20.
Workshops include Hearth basket making with artist and basket maker Carolyn Kemp. Participants hand-weavethe basket out of natural and space dyed reeds. All levels welcome.
In Fiber Preparation, local fiber artist Betsey Leslie will show how to work with wool, angora and alpaca fiber. All materials will be provided.
A Fiber Spinning” workshop, also with Leslie, will turn the fiber into yard. It’s a beginners workshop on using a spinning whee. All materials will be provided.
Resident naturalist Carolyn Fensore will lead Nature’s Outdoor Classroom, a 2.5-hour hike through the Shakers 1,800 acres of diversified habitats while identifying and explaining flora, fauna, geological formations, and Shaker history. The nature walk will be offered at 10:30 a.m.; check-in is at the museum visitors’ center. Shaker Village Nature Walks are free; reservations for the nature walk are suggested but not required.
