LEWISTON — Great Falls Balloon Festival Board of Directors recently announced this year’s theme in partnership with the Maine Forest Service — “Bee Safe, Only YOU can Prevent Wildfires.”
The decision is based on Smokey Bear’s celebrating a major milestone — his 75th birthday. The Smokey Bear balloon will be joined by two more special friends, to be announced at a later date. The 27th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival will be held Aug. 16 to 18.
Also during this year’s festival, the city of Auburn, which is celebrating its sesquicentennial birthday (150th), will hold birthday bash Saturday, Aug. 17, kicking off with a parade and ending with a street fair at Festival Plaza, Main Street, Auburn.
There will be live music before the evening’s finale of fireworks.
