AUBURN — The Penley Corner Church will host its annual open house and service at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 14.
The public is invited to join Penley descendants and neighbors for the service. Refreshments will be served following the service, and guests will have an opportunity to tour the church and the grounds. The church is on the corner of Riverside Drive and Penley Corner Road in South Auburn.
The Penley Corner Church was built in 1833, by Captain John Penley as a meeting house for residents of the Penley Corner section of Auburn. The church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This year’s service will be led by the Rev. Henry Cooper, who has been associate pastor at the Fayette Baptist Church for the past 13 years. Previously, he was a missionary pilot and field director with South America Mission in Bolivia. He and his wife, Vicki, live in Chesterville and enjoy floatplane flying, hiking and spending as much time as possible with their grandchildren.
