Turner Fourth of July activities include parade, shortcake, music and more

TURNER — Much of the the town’s annual Fourth of July festivities will take place at Turner Public Library’s Fourth of July Festival on the Green.
A wonderful and fun community parade starts at 10 a.m. on Cobb Road and proceeds down Main Street (Route 117) to Leavitt Area High School. There will be kids, bicycles and tricycles, animals of all sorts, music, horses and carriages, balloons, veterans, fire and police vehicles, farm equipment.
Immediately after the parade, “The World’s Best Strawberry Shortcake” will be served on the Green by Turner Public Library volunteers. Other activities include:
* The Library’s annual book sale from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. will be held in the Leavitt Institute Building.
* Throughout the day, games prepared and manned by the LAHS junior class will be available in the area for children of all ages; a bounce house will be set up; the Turner History Museum and Historical Association will host an open house, and local nonprofit organizations will offer food and drink.
* Looking for 4th of July candy? Smack a piñata! That will happen about 11 a.m. on the Green.
* Marty Lang will perform a mix of swing, jazz and rock music in the Gazebo starting around 11 a.m..
The event is a major fundraiser for the Turner Public Library as well as for several other local non-profits.

A NOTE TO DOG OWNERS: MSAD 52 allows the use of school property for the Festival on the Green. To comply with their policies, please leave your dogs at home on July 4.
