Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust hosts two summer series for kids, families

RANGELEY – The Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust is hosting two summer-long series for kids and families this summer.
The trust, along with the Rangeley Public Library and the Maine Forestry Museum are partnering on “Stories and S’mores” for families with children aged 4 to 6.
The program is free, and families are invited to the Maine Forestry Museum at 5 p.m. the second Saturday of June, July and August.
Participants will walk the MFM trails, stopping to listen to narrated stories with nature themes along the way. The stories have been selected by the Rangeley Public Library and volunteers from RPL and RLHT will read aloud. The walks are appropriate for all ages but book themes will be directed toward a younger audience.
The walk will conclude at the Northern Forest Canoe Trail Lean-To on the property which boasts a fire pit and privy.
“Once there, children and their parents will be encouraged to think outside the traditional s’mores and get creative!” said Amanda Laliberte, Program Manager for RLHT. “We have some great ideas that will reinvigorate your love of an old favorite.”
The trust will also host the weekly “Walk the Woods,” which will be every Wednesday evening throughout the summer.
Beginning May 29, the RLHT will lead 90-minute walks every Wednesday on their conservation lands around Rangeley Lake. The walks will be open and free to the community, and begin at 5:30 at the trailhead. Information is available at www.rlht.org/get-involoved/calendar, or on the RLHT’s Facebook page. Changes in scheduling because of unforeseen circumstances will posted to Facebook.
“Our community has over 14,000 acres 35 miles of trails for to explore,” said Program Manager Amanda Laliberte. “Open from dawn to dusk our 32 conservation areas are free for inspiration, fat biking, photography, birding, family outings and adventure. Sometimes you just need a friend to take that first step with you. We hope residents and visitors will take this opportunity to explore new trails, and meet our neighbors.”
The walks are appropriate for all ages. Snacks, water and a good attitude are all participants need.
