AUBURN — Girl Scouts from the Dirigo and River Valley service units held a Celebrating Women Event at Temple Shalom April 6, with 55 Girl Scouts attending.
The event was for Juniors (fourth grade) and above and provided girls the opportunity to meet and talk to 10 women from different professional fields.
Professional women who participated in the event were Peggy Rotundo, politician; Marsha Graves, emergency medical technician; Sara Bumby, entrepreneur/cosmetic industry consultant; Mara King, lawyer; Deanna Ehrhardt, artist/private studio art teacher, Gloria Varney, sustainable farmer/farm store owner; Anne Brown, M.D., program director at St. Mary’s; Karen Ebersole, veterinarian; Katy Grondin, superintendent, and Tracey Peaslee, R.N.
The event was set up for “speed networking,” allowing girls time with each professional, giving them an opportunity to ask questions about the professions and to find out a little about how each woman got to where she is today.
The Dirigo Service Unit serves Girl Scout troops in Lisbon, Durham, Lewiston, Sabattus, Litchfield, Wales, Monmouth and Winthrop, and the River Valley Service unit serves Girl Scout troops in Auburn, Minot, Greene, Turner. Leeds, Poland and Mechanic Falls.
