Loon Echo Land Trust Earth Day hike, more set for April

BRIDGTON — The Loon Echo Land Trust is holding several end-of-April events for the public.

From 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22, Loon Echo staff will lead hikers up to the rocky (and maybe snowy) summit of Bald Pate Mountain. The annual event is family and dog friendly. At the summit, attendees may share an original or favorite poem that embodies the spirit of Earth Day. Hiking boots or shoes, water and snacks recommended.
On Saturday, April 27, there will be spring trail work during the day, and Paint Night in Harrison at night.
The trust and Maine Appalachian Mountain Club volunteers, beginning at 9 a.m. on April 27, will spruce up the Ledges Trail on Pleasant Mountain after a long winter. Tools and training on trail work techniques will be provided for volunteers.
The workday will be strenuous and participants should be prepared with appropriate work clothes (pants and sturdy boots) along with plenty of water and snacks.
Volunteers should meet at the Ledges trailhead parking area at 8:45 a.m. The event is free, however registration is required by contacting Jon Evans, LELT stewardship manager, at 207-647-4352 or emailing stewardship@lelt.org.
From 3 to 7 p.m. April 27, Loon Echo and Paint the Town in Harrison have partnered to host a paint night fundraiser for the land trust. Admission is $40, which includes the materials and instruction to paint “Maine Paradise” as well as a donation to LELT.
The event is BYOB, but snacks will be provided. Space is limited, sign up at www.painthtetownwithme.com.
