Conference on L-A region farmland access, food economy is March 7

AUBURN — A free half-day conference on farmland access and food economy in the the Lewiston-Auburn region will be held from 8 a.m. to 12;30 p.m. Thursday, March 7.

The conference, at the Auburn Senior Community Center, 48 Pettengill Park, is for Androscoggin County farm seekers, retiring farmers, land owners, service providers, city/town officials, staff and economic development professionals.
Those who may be interested are farmers looking for land in the area, retiring farmers wondering what will happen when they’re ready to stop farming, landowners thinking about making their property available for farming and city and town officials and economic development professionals interested in connecting with farmers and others about ways to grow the food and farm economy.
Host organizations include the Good food Council of Lewiston-Auburn, Maine Farmland Trust, Land for Good, Somali Bantu Community Association, Cultivating Community,Land in Common community land trust, Cooperative Development Institute, Androscoggin Land Trust, FoodCorps, St. Mary’s Nutrition Center and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
