Norway church winter clothing drive deemed a success

NORWAY — The Second Congregational Church of Norway this year continued a long tradition by sharing the gifts of Christmas throughout the community.

The Mabel Brown Mitten Tree sprouted 85 pairs of mittens, 34 pairs of gloves, 43 hats, and 30 scarves, which were distributed to area schools. They were given to Guy E. Rowe School in Norway, Paris Elementary School, West Paris schools and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
The congregation engaged in an Advent Box project, placing food or personal care items in a box during each day of the Advent season. The boxes were returned to the church on Epiphany Sunday, Jan, 6.
Some 17 boxes of food were delivered to the food closet at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, 11 boxes were delivered to Oxford Hills Middle School and three boxes were donated to the Oxford Hills Food Pantry.
The church, at 205 Main St., will offer a free supper to anyone from the community from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18.
