Public invited to Mills Jan. 2 inauguration

Dec. 232018

FARMINGTON — Governor-elect Janet Mills announced that tickets for the inauguration are now available to the public.
The Inauguration – which will consist of a joint legislative session, the swearing-in ceremony and the governor’s inaugural address, among other celebratory events – will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, according to the Maine Constitution, the “first Wednesday after the first Tuesday in January.” It will be held at the Augusta Civic Center.

“An inauguration is about the people of Maine and honoring our heritage, our traditions, and our future,” Mills said in a news release. “I invite people across the state to join us for this time-honored tradition as we look to lead Maine in a new, better direction.”
Tickets are required for entry. Members of the public who have not received an invitation in the mail may reserve a ticket at www.janetmills.com/rsvp/public. Those unable to reserve a ticket online can call 207-209-4270 to reserve one. Tickets are reserved on a first come, first served basis until the Civic Center’s capacity is reached.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. on inauguration day. Guests should be seated by 5:45 p.m. For security reasons, no backpacks or large bags will be allowed. Carpooling to the inauguration is highly recommended.
In addition to the Augusta Civic Center, parking will be available at the University of Maine Augusta and Maine Municipal Association after 5 p.m. Additional information about parking and hotel options can be found at www.janetmills.com/rsvp.
In line with past inaugural events, the inaugural celebration, which will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4 is by invitation only and will feature to-be-announced entertainment and showcase food and beverages from businesses across the state. Costs for the inaugural event will be covered by a $20 ticketing charge, as well as by donations raised through the Mills Inaugural Committee.
