Lithgow Library will waive fines for food, toiletry donations in January

AUGUSTA – Lithgow Public Library is offering patrons a chance to start the year with a clean library slate and help their community while they’re at it.
Throughout January, the library will waive overdue fines when for patrons who bring in food or toiletries for the library’s donation drive.

All donations will be delivered at the end of the month to the Augusta Food Bank and Bridging the Gap’s Everyday Basics Essentials Pantry.
Those who don’t have fines or aren’t a library member are still welcome to donate.
The need for basic food and toiletries is enormous, library officials said.
While any non-perishable food item or unopened toiletries are welcome, the following items are especially needed:
Everyday Essentials Basics Pantry: toilet paper, powdered laundry detergent, full size bottles of shampoo, full size bar soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes (for adults and children), diapers (size 4-6), diaper wipes, tampons, sanitary pads (regular and super).
Augusta Food Bank: peanut butter, baked beans, juice boxes, canned fruit.
Donations may be brought to the circulation desk at the library, 45 Winthrop St., during regular library hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The library will be closed on Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day and Jan. 21, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
