Augusta knitting group seeks members to help with project

AUGUSTA — The Augusta Age Friendly Committee and Buker Community Center are teaming up to provide mittens and hats to Augusta schoolchildren. The group is looking for knitters who would like to join the effort.

The group meets every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Buker Community Center, 26 Armory St., to enjoy coffee, snacks, conversations and to knit.
A great deal of yarn has been donated to the project, as well as needles and patterns. Instruction, hints and suggestions are always available.
Finished articles are taken to school nurses and guidance counselors to distribute to youngsters arriving at school without adequate warm clothing. People who have projects of their own to work on are always welcome to share the camaraderie.
Volunteers will provide yarn and supplies for folks who prefer to work at home. Knit goods will be picked up to take to the schools.
For more information, contact the Buker Community Center at 207-626-2350.
