Greene Central School students hold flag-retirement ceremony

GREENE — Students from Jennifer Bassett’s third-grade class at Greene Central School welcomed veterans, students, teachers and friends to their second annual flag disposal ceremony Nov. 14 at the school.

The students were eager to participate and learn about proper flag disposal from the American Legion Philip S. Bryant Post 111 of Turner. Assistant Principal Susan Pilote worked with Bassett and local veterans to organize the ceremony.
Although the weather was brutally cold and windy, staff, students and veterans braved the elements to pay their respects and learn more about the proper disposal of used American flags.
Teachers, students and staff as well as members of American Legion Post 111 in Turner look forward to making next year’s ceremony bigger and better.
