Dentists Who Care for ME program helped more than 250 patients this year

MANCHESTER — Dentists, dental specialists, hygienists, and office staff members throughout the state volunteered Nov. 2 to provide free care during the 10th annual Dentists Who Care for ME. More than 250 patients received free care, valued at more than $60,000, during this year’s event.

The program offers basic oral care services (cleanings, fillings, or extractions) for adults who have no other access to dental care, as well as referrals to specialists. The annual day of free care has examined and treated more than 4,000 patients and has provided services valued at nearly $1.3 million since its inception.
The Maine Dental Association has taken a lead role in organizing Dentists Who Care for ME, and hopes to the program will continue to grow.
“This year was very exciting, as the University of New England Oral Health Center joined the efforts, and many dental students were able participate in Dentists Who Care for ME,” said MDA Executive Director Angela Cole Westhoff. Practices that participated in this year’s Dentists Who Care for ME were located in Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Falmouth, Topsham, Skowhegan and Presque Isle.
On Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, dentists across Maine will team up for the 11th Annual Dentists Who Care for ME event. For more information on Dentists Who Care for ME, call the Maine Dental Association at 207-622-7900 or visit www.medental.org.
