FARMINGDALE — The Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras will perform its inaugural concernt at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Hall-Dale High School auditorium.
The two new youth orchestras bring together many of central Maine’s most dedicated advanced young musicians.
The preparatory ensemble, Kennebec Valley Youth Orchestra, conducted by Dan Keller, opens the concert with three pieces, including their favorite, “Trepak,” from Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker.” String, wind, brass, and percussion players in the full orchestra, Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony, are conducted by Jinwook Park, and the performance will include Beethoven’s Symphony 1, “Sicilienne,” by Gabriel Fauré, and Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances.”
The musicians rehearse every Tuesday night at the University of Maine at Augusta, and are excited about offering their music to the community. Suggested donations of $5 for adults will be accepted at the door to help defray concert expenses. Students and children are admitted free.
