LEWISTON — The Lewiston Youth Advisory Counsil Shine On Lewiston outreach will host a community meeting for residents to meet the Lewiston Police Department and learn more about what they do do.
“Police Insider: True Blue,” a panel of police personnel answering questions from LYAC members, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Lewiston City Council Chambers, 27 Pine St. The panel discussion is free and open to the public.
“People don’t always know what Lewiston police do,” said council member Zachary Morin at the Oct. 23 meeting.
As the group brainstormed about their next Shine On Lewiston outreach to bring awareness of Lewiston’s many positives, Morinsaid he sees Lewiston PD officer Matt Vierling do many positive things as Lewiston High School resource officer — both at the school and off-site. “He really goes above and beyond,” Morin said.
Christine Chasse said that an officer recently helped her navigate a busy intersection.
After discussionm the group decided to shine a light on what encompasses the role of a Lewiston police officer, and to provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about their passion and experiences.
The Shine on Lewiston series has recently included interviews with new and expanding local businesses, launched through Facebook and Twitter, and an opportunity for residents and visitors to share about Lewiston positives via www.lewistonmaine.gov/positivity.
The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council was established by the City Council in 2001.
