AUGUSTA –The Lithgow Public Library will host a jazz concert and and author talk about Tudor London this month.
The events at the library, 45 Winthrop St., are free and open to the public.
At 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, a jazz quintet will perform an evening of music inspired by swing, bebop, Latin America, modern jazz of the 1960s and renditions of 1960s pop and beyond. Featuring Christine Letcher on vocals, Bill Moseley on flute, Andy Moulton on guitar, David Briggs on bass and Andy Schultz on percussion, all have roots in the UMA jazz program.
At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, Maine author Mary Lawrence will discuss Tudor London and her work — the Bianca Goddard historical mystery series.
The series is set during the final years of King Henry VIII’s reign and features the daughter of an infamous alchemist. Bianca lives in seedy Southwark across the river Thames from London and survives by creating and selling medicines. Along the way, Bianca gets involved in solving murders using her knowledge of alchemy gleaned from years assisting her father.
The first three books in the series — “The Alchemist’s Daughter,” “Death of an Alchemist” and “Death at St. Vedast” — are all available to borrow from the library.
