Dinner to benefit Roger Roy will be Nov. 3 in Jay

JAY — The family and friends of Roger L. Roy are holding a spaghetti dinner to help with Roy’s medical and travel expenses as he seeks treatment for multiple myeloma.
Roy, 69, has lived and worked in the Livermore/Livermore Falls area his entire life until his retirement, when he moved to Eustis.

A family member says that most folks who know Roy would agree that his “fierce look and gruff exterior are a cover for his softer side. He is one of the hardest working, funniest, and giving people around.”
The spaghetti dinner is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Route 4, in Jay. The cost for adults is $7 and $3 for children 12 and under. There will be a silent auction, many raffle items and a 50/50 drawing.
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells, which accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd out normal cells and invade bone tissue, damaging and weakening bones. “This has undoubtedly affected Roger and his family emotionally and financially,” the relative said. “He is currently going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The hope for the future is to do a bone marrow transplant.”
Roy was born in Livermore to Raul and Flo Roy and grew up on River Road, and graduated in 1968 from Livermore Falls High School. He worked at the Otis mill and International Paper as a pipefitter/welder and owned RB’s Meats in Brettuns for 20-plus years with his wife, the former Bonnie Timberlake. He also owned Triple R Custom Meats in Turner in the early 80s. Roger learned his meat-cutting skills from Roger Libby at Brettun’s Variety in Livermore.
He has always loved the outdoors, whether it be hunting, fishing, driving his tractor around the house or simply having coffee at the “Dead River CafĂ©,” aka his porch, chatting with his “Coffee Clutch.”
