LEWISTON — Two community engagement forums and an open house at the new Norway location are among the activities and events scheduled by SeniorsPlus and its Education Center classes for October.
The community engagement forums will be 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Gendron Franco Center and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at the St. Mary’s Lepage Conference Center.
The purpose of the forum is to identify health priorities for Androscoggin county and what residents and stakeholders think is important. Registration is not necessary.
The agency’s volunteer fair will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, and will include tables by SEARCH at Catholic Charities, BookReach, Girl Scouts and American Red Cross. There will be staff available from each agency to answer questions on a host of volunteer opportunities available.
Other highlights of the month are the Aging Well Living Well Expo 2018, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Sunday River, Bethel. Cost is $25 and includes breakfast and lunch. An open house will be held at SeniorsPlus new Norway office from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19. The meet and greet will include light refreshments prepared by the Nutrition team.
Classes offered by SeniorsPlus are held at 8 Falcon Road, unless noted, and are also free, unless noted. Classes are also held in Franklin and Oxford counties, including ongoing Caregiver Support groups and Living Well for Better Health workshops.

Gearing Up for Flu Season, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, with instructor Angela Moore, of Beacon Hospice. Participants will learn ways to avoid getting sick, how to identify different types of viruses and how to prevent them, as well as ways to communicate with physicians to get the best care possible.
Good Grief, the Gift of Final Expense Planning, from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, with instructors Zoe Theriault, Jacob Daniels and Jennifer Uwaechia of Banker’s Life. participants will learn how to plan for final expenses, options, and the costs associated with cremation or burial, probate and different talking points with loved ones. Light refreshments provided.
