SAM U14 skaters open season by raising national championship banner

AUGUSTA – Members of the Skating Association of Maine U14 Maine Moose were honored with a championship banner celebration on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault in Hallowell.

Last February, the SAM U14 Maine Moose team won the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League Championship beating the Gulf Coast Flames in the national championship game.
“This was a season I will never forget. We were the first Maine team to ever win a U14 national championship, so we will always having bragging rights in the state,” said Bill Desmarais, head coach. “This group of kids was special and a group we’ll never forget.
Players from the team are part of the Skating Association of Maine, an organization that encourages and promotes ice skating programs throughout the state.
Josh Giard, goalie of the national championship team, said, “At the beginning of the year we all had a goal to win, obviously every team does. We got better and we pushed each other every day, so we could win that national championship and feel great at the end of the year.”
The SAM U14 team started the 2018-19 season on Sunday, Sept. 9 in Cromwell, Conn., with two victories against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
