BRIDGTON — In July 2018, the Hagerstrom family of Bridgton traveled from Maine to Uganda, Africa, with a final destination of the Agape House orphanage. During their month-long stay, they had the opportunity to visit several schools and villages in the region.
One of those schools, the Buyala Children’s School, has an urgent need for clean water. Currently, they employ a young man to carry multiple 20 gallon tanks on a bicycle for 1/3 mile, filling these at a “stream” that goes through a swamp, returning with the tanks to have the contaminated water boiled for the children to use and drink.
Even after boiling, the water is brown and has debris in it, resembling sludge. In order to provide clean, safe water for the more than 300 children at the school and their teachers, we are working to raise $5,000 to build a well at the school. What can you do?

The first official fundraiser, a Chili & Chowder Cook-off, will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St . Watch for more details on this competition, and email your favorite chili or chowder recipe.
