Annual Phillips Model Train and Rail Fair is Sept. 29

PHILLIPS — The annual Model Train and Rail Fair will be held from 9 to 3 Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Phillips Area Community Center, in partnership with the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad and the Phillips Historical Society.

The model train event is free, though there is an admission charge for adults and kids older than 6 to ride the train SR&RL train, which runs from Sanders station every hour on the hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. , and features model train displays, train and hobby vendors. Author Pam Matthews will also be on hand to sell and sign her new children’s book about Fly Rod Crosby. Photographers Cindy Worthley and Paula Kane will sell their photos, with a focus on the local railroad. Both the SR&RL RR and the historical society will have items for sale.
Last year the parking lot next to the building was filled with antique cars and trucks, and a repeat of this display is in the works. The American Legion, whose building next door in the former depot, will be on hand grilling hot dogs and burgers, selling full lunches beginning at 11 a.m.
The Phillips Farmer’s Market will celebrate the last day of the season in the depot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with breakfast treats from local bakers and the last chance to get this season’s plants and vegetables.
