AUBURN — The Auburn Water District/Lewiston Water District will apply a low dose of algicide to Lake Auburn to help prevent algae blooms that could threaten drinking water quality, the district announced.
The application will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, as a precautionary measure, and the Lake will be closed to boats during the process. The public launch on Route 4 in East Auburn will be closed, as well as the Route 4 turn-out just beyond the launch. Hand launching of watercraft anywhere on the Lake will be also be prohibited.
Water quality will be closely monitored before, during, and after treatment, and it is anticipated the Lake will be opened once cleared by test results the day after the application.
