MADRID — Reeds Mill Church, the “Church in the Wildwood,” will host its 40th annual Hymn Sing at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.
The tradition began in 1978 when brothers Ward and Wade Bredeau asked the Rev. Robert Holcomb, pastor at the time, what the one-room church would look like after dark with the lamps lit. It was decided an evening hymn sing would be the perfect way to find out.
The brothers have continued to attend the sings when they have been able.
The Hymn Sing offers an opportunity to enjoy the serenity of this one-room historic church despite the absence of electricity, water and central heat.
For an hour, attendees will “raise the roof with songs of praise and worship.”
All are welcome. A flashlight is recommended.
