Dead River Historical Society Ice Cream Social is Sept 2

STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, with an an old-fashioned ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m.

In addition to a dish of ice cream, participants can also enjoy a brownie a la mode made and served by society volunteers.
Charlie Bruce will entertain with an afternoon of songs like Jud Strunk’s “Daisy a Day,” John Denver songs and other requests. He will be joined by Peter Farnsworth on the mandolin.
Members hope visitors will find free ice cream and music a great way to spend one of the the last days of the season. Everyone from everywhere os welcome. Vendors are also welcome, free of charge, to set up their tents and sell their goods.
The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by advanced appointment year-round. Displays include a collection of old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families, and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.
