SUMNER — The Sumner Scholarship Fund, now in its 19th year, begins its September fundraising events with a pulled pork sandwich plate at Buckfield Community Day on Monday, Sept. 3.

The sandwich comes with chips and a drink and will be $8.
On Saturday, Sept. 8, the annual bottle drive begins, with drivers picking up bagged returnable bottle in Sumner. Bottles may also be dropped off at the Sumner Town Office or at Coach Terry’s Redemption Center in Turner.
Last year more than 27,000 bottles were collected to support the scholarship fund.
Calendars to benefit the scholarship will sold during September at $10 apiece. Only 200 are sold, and the the calendars feature a daily cash prize during October with a total of $1,000 payout to the winners.
Calendars may be bought at the town office or by calling Lee Berry at 207-388-2181. The Sumner Scholarship Fund awarded a total $7,700 this year to 11 residents.
Since its beginning in 2000, 112 awards have been given out for a total of $42,200. All Sumner residents may apply for the annual scholarship and there are no age restrictions.
Applications are available at the town office or online at www.sumnermaine.us and must be submitted by April 30.
The Scholarship Fund continues to need volunteer drivers for annual bottle drive or to take bottles from the town office to the Redemption Center.
