POLAND SPRING — The Poland Spring Preservation Society will host two events, on Aug. 20 and 22.
Crooked Creek Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, at the Gazebo at Poland Sprint Resort. The concert is free and open to the public.
The band is from Mechanic Falls, and covers classic rock, blues, and country. Members include lead vocalist Kerry O’Leary, Ben Flagg and Jeff Kilton on guitar, bassist Russ Hart, and Don Hart on drums.
In the event of rain, concerts will be held in the All Soul’s Chapel.
The week’s Wicked Wednesday program will be “The Big House Fire,” at 6:30 p.m., All Souls Chapel. On July 3, 1975, the Poland Spring House burned to the ground. James Aikman, former news director for WMTW Channel 8, stood on the porch of the Presidential Inn (formerly the Riccar Inn) while doing a live broadcast of the fire. WMTW recently donated the film to the Preservation Society, which restored and edited it. Aikman founded the Poland Spring Preservation Society in 1976.
Suggested donation is $5 and will benefit the Poland Spring Preservation Society. Water and cookies will be provided.
The society’s mission is to preserve the historic buildings and educate the public about Poland’s Spring’s unique place in history. The Museums are open to the public May through October.
