TURNER — Best-selling Maine author Paul Doiron and Maine poet Kristen Lindquist, husband and wife, will speak and read at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Turner Public Library.
The dual author reading is just one of many events at the library this month.
Both will have copies of their books available and will also sign previously purchased copies. Copies of all Doiron’s books and Lindquist’s poetry volume, “Tourists in the Known World,” are available at the library.
Coming up sooner, the library’s basket auction benefit fundraiser is underway and the library is accepting donations of themed-baskets, gift cards and single items until Aug. 8.
The auction will go live Saturday, Aug. 18, and continue through Saturday, Sept. 8. Donations are tax deductible, and the library will provide receipts.
Summer Reading Stars and the Summer Teen Challenge continue throughout July and into August, with free Portland Sea Dogs tickets to all kids who register for summer reading, and prizes to the top five readers. No reading logs are required. Teens who use their TPL cards to check out items receive a scratch card for either an immediate prize or entry into a drawing for a gift card to be awarded at the end of the summer.
TPL’s “The Way Life Should Be” photo and video contest is open to all area residents, and submissions will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 17. Rules for the contest are available on the library’s website at www.turnerpubliclibrary.org, and at the library. Prizes will be awarded for the best photographs.
