JAY — The first HollandStrong Summerfest — in memory of Mike Holland — has been set for Saturday, Aug. 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spruce Mountain middle and high school, 31 Cmmunity Center Drive.
Holland, an avid two-sport athlete, was lost at sea when the SS El Faro sand off the coast of the Bahamas during Hurricane Joaquin Oct. 1, 2015.
The day will kick off at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk. Other activities include a cornhole tournament, children’s activities, horseshoe tournament, Texas-style barbecue with Longhorn Legend BBQ and musical entertainment from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Also part of the festivities will be raffles, craft and vendor tables, and food vendors throughout the day. All proceeds will benefit the HollandStrong Community Foundation and go toward improving the athletic fields at the schools.
